2018 WESTERN SWING FESTIVAL

The Western Swing Festival that we have been calling Swing on the Square for the last 25 years, and has been taking place in San Marcos, Texas, is moving in 2018 to Lockhart, Texas.  We will miss all of our old friends in San Marcos and we really appreciate what having the festival there has done for Western Swing music.  Many thousands of out of town visitors have come to partake in the festival over the years,  and there have been many great experiences and friendships made.  They won't be forgotten, but it is time to move down the road.  We have always had the festival, which includes the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame Show, in the spring, but we have decided to move it to September 28, 29, and 30 in 2018.  So, we will keep you informed by posting a new schedule for the event and a story about what is exactly happening.  This will come real soon.  There will be multiple stages, great Western Swing acts, a wooden dance floor, great food, and help getting around from stage to stage.  Friday nights even, the Gathering, will include the Hall of Fame Show, a meal, and a ranch location similar to the Freeman Ranch outside of San Marcos.  I know everyone used to really enjoy that particular event, and I would like to keep that tradition going.

A Moment in Western Swing History #1

Below is a picture from our third Hall of Fame Show at the Austin Opry House in 1990.  Starting on the left is Eldon Shamblin on guitar, Tommy Allsup on guitar, Al Dressen, and in the back over Eldon's head is Smoky Dacus on drums, and to the far right behind Al you can see Joe Frank Ferguson's playing the upright bass.  What a night that was!

Wow, do we miss those guys!
